Academic Source vs Non-academic
The academic source that I choose
like most has an abstract which is a major difference from a non-academic
paper. Both academic and non-academic sources
that I found have graphs but there are major differences how the graphs are
presented and explained. In the academic
paper it showed complex formulas that the average reader wouldn’t
understand. This shows not only the amount
of time and effort that was put into the writing, but it also shows that the
audience for an academic paper is a more educated group. The academic paper also contains an introduction
to the paper as well as a conclusion which goes to show that they expect the reader
to read the whole paper front to back.
That is very different from the non-academic because the graphs are
colorful and big representing that most readers will only look at the content
in the graphs to decide if they want to read the paper. Another difference in the types of papers are
bold words are shown to draw your attention to the import words or key
words in the information in the non-academic paper. Yet, in the academic paper it has hardly any
bold words because it expects the reader to be engaged and do more than just
skim the article. The more I read both
types of articles I plan to go more into depth into the rhetorical situations.
